Languages
At Prince Avenue Academy, we wish to develop in all young people a curiosity and interest in the French language and to provide an introduction to the culture of French-speaking countries and communities. Children have the opportunity to develop and reinforce their language skills and cultural awareness in a variety of creative and stimulating ways.
The curriculum has been chosen to allow an opportunity for children to gradually build on their skills and revisit topics in greater depth. Learning French at Prince Avenue enables children to express their ideas and thoughts in French, providing opportunities for them to interact and communicate with others for practical purposes both in speech and in writing.
We aim to expose children to authentic French and offer regular opportunities to listen to native speakers see the language in real life scenarios. The intent at the beginning of KS2 is that children acquire basic skills and understanding in French with a strong emphasis placed on developing their Speaking and Listening ability. These will be further developed later in KS2 alongside developing their Reading and Writing skills. Finally progressing to more complex language and grammatical concepts and greater learner autonomy. Our intention is to help Children grow into curious, confident and reflective language learners and provide them with a foundation that will equip them for further language studies in the future.
