Reception
At Prince Avenue Academy and Nursery we are proud that our children have the best start to their primary education. Our Reception provides a strong foundation of knowledge and skills which fully prepares them for primary school. We have developed a broad and balanced curriculum which supports children's learning across the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
This seven areas include three prime areas:
Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
As well as four specific areas:
Literacy
Mathmatics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Our curriculum uses fun and exciting topics that draw children into their learning and broaden their understanding of books, cultures and the world around them.
Our Reception day starts with a RWInc phonics lesson. All children will also take part in short, fun literacy, maths, handwriting and topic lessons each day. They will also have opportunities to work closely with our highly trained Reception team in small group activities and plenty of time to explore their own learning during Busy Time.
We have extremely fortunate to have a large, engaging outside area for the sole use of our Reception children. This is used daily in all weathers and offers children the opportunity to play, explore and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
